SS25 Fashion… According to Me

Now that Spring has officially sprung, it’s time to talk about what I think the possible trends for the upcoming seasons will be. I’m putting my Aquarius placements to work (iykyk).

For context, I based most of this on my premonitions while incorporating a bit of the 20-year fashion cycle. Depending on the person, some things have never gone out of style. On the other hand, you may not like any of this. This is my opinion, and I’m not a psychic. I also need to preface that something doesn’t need to be in style for you to wear it.

I wanted to provide a different take on fashion and trends because, recently, I’ve seen discussions about how the collective seems afraid to experiment with personal style choices. Not to get too deep, but this can be worrisome, especially in our current political climate.

With that being said, this is for the fashionistas who want to stand out during this time. That doesn’t mean you can’t keep it simple, but these are just a few concepts to help us remain distinct.

Starting strong with the color red. I feel it in my bones. Maybe it’ll only be a popular color in my wardrobe; we shall see. It’s my Pantone color of the year, if you will (although Mocha Mousse is a good one, too). A classic color, but I know it’s probably a little unusual for the spring. You’re likely picturing soft, muted hues like the popular butter yellow, which will also be present, of course, but I think we will see some subtle or very loud pops in our ensembles. It can be the outfit itself or accessories like nails, sunglasses, bags, you name it. Cherry prints and keychains, like the ones from Coach, are starting to become popular, which is why I believe red will be all the rage soon. Leopard is also in, and what better color to pair it with?!

On the topic of colors, I think bright hues, in general, will make strides in the upcoming months. Combinations of complementary colors styled together, or even a mix of prints. Maybe it’s the world of darkness, but I’m feeling inspired. It feels like we’re experiencing an 80s-esque feel coming to fruition. I’m thinking loud, experimental statement pieces like we see in designs by Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier– especially in the 90s. If you read my article, “The Ghost of Fashion’s Past,” you’ll know about the merging of styles from different periods and the reason for them.

¾ sleeve tops. I already own two, and yes, one of which is red. Again, nothing innovative, but it’s the perfect type of shirt for the transition between cold and hot. If you read my “Developing My Style” article, you know I’m into early 2000s fashion (another shameless plug). This is one of the pieces that exhibits this era in fashion for me.

Unique footwear. You may have heard this before, but the trend of ballet flats is seen as a recession indicator. If you’ve been on TikTok lately, you can see the rise of flats, but not just any flat. Brands like Miu Miu, Adidas, and Puma have all created their interpretation of ballet flats that are almost sold out on every site. I own a pair of the Speedcat Ballet Sneakers from Puma, and I think they’ll help elevate a simple outfit. If you love sneakers, this could be a great in-between if you’re looking for something a little different.

On the topic of unique footwear, I also purchased a pair of Elizabelle Mia Sandals from Clarks, their take on the fisherman sandals. This one is controversial, I know some may not find these to be cute. BUT, I’ve been on the hunt for a dressed-up sandal and one for comfort. Imagine the Clarks sandals with some baggy jeans or even a maxi dress. I’ve been excited about branching out with my style, and these are a perfect way to do so. Please understand my vision.

That’s it for my Spring/Summer 2025 fashion ideas. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: WEAR WHAT YOU WANT. Fashion shouldn’t be governed by others, and if someone doesn’t like what you’re wearing, it means you’re doing something right. With that being said, there is a fine line that should be taken into consideration, especially in terms of cultural influences. What may not be a serious choice to you may be of utmost importance to someone else, so just be mindful when falling into trends.
